Why is Soriatane prescribed?
Soriatane is prescribed to treat, relieve and control severe skin disorders, like psoriasis. Soriatane works by allowing normal development and progress of the skin. Soriatane can keep on working including after you stop taking it, but generally after a time, the skin condition returns and you may need to begin taking it again.
How do I use Soriatane?
This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form:
Oral (Tablets): Follow your doctor's instructions. Take Soriatane with a main meal or with a glass of milk.
What are the potential side effects from Soriatane?
More common side effects from Soriatane: Headache, nausea or vomiting.
Less common side effects from Soriatane: Blurred vision; eye pain.
Rare side effects from Soriatane: Abdominal or stomach ache; double vision or other problems in seeing, including decreased night vision after sunset and before sunrise; darkened urine and yellowing of the skin or eyes.
What should I discuss with my doctor before taking Soriatane?
Consult with your health care professional any time skin irritation becomes severe or if your skin condition does not improve within 8 to 12 weeks. If you are allergic to Soriatane, or to any other substances such as foods, preservatives, or dyes, tell your doctor. If you are on any special diet, such as a low-sodium, low-cholesterol, or low-sugar diet. How often you drink alcohol, even if it is only an occasional drink.
Soriatane must not be taken during pregnancy. Soriatane is not recommended during breast-feeding.
If you are planning to combine Soriatane with: Alcoholic beverages, Cyclosporine, Hydantoins, such as phenytoin, Etretinate, Isotretinoin, Tretinoin (oral), Tretinoin (topical) (e.g., Avita, Renova, or Retin-A), Vitamin A, including vitamin supplements.
If you have any of the following: Diabetes mellitus, High cholesterol or triglycerides, inflammation of pancreas, because Soriatane may make these conditions worse or increase cholesterol or triglyceride problems
If you have past or current problems with toxic symptoms from vitamin A, Soriatane may increase the chance that they will occur again Severe kidney disease or severe liver disease may cause Soriatane to stay in the body for more time and increase the chance of side effects.
What is the recommended dose for Soriatane?
To treat severe psoriasis in Adults: 25 or 50 milligrams a day as a single dose. After four weeks, a dose of 25 to 80 mg a day is used.
To treat severe psoriasis in Children: Must be determined by your doctor.
For other severe skin disorders (such as bullous or nonbullous erythroderma, lamellar ichthyoses, and keratosis follicularis):
Adults: 25 milligrams a day. After four weeks, a dose of 10 to 80 mg a day is used.
Children: In children the use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
