Why is Sandrena prescribed?
Sandrena is used to treat and reduce symptoms of menopause, including feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest; the sudden intense episodes of heat and sweating known as "hot flashes"; dry, itchy external genitals; and vaginal irritation. It is also prescribed for other conditions that cause low levels of estrogen, and some doctors prescribe it for teenagers who fail to mature at the usual rate.
How do I use Sandrena?
This Medication is applied once daily on the skin, on the lower trunk of the right or left thigh, on alternate days. The application surface should be 1-2 times the size of a hand. Sandrena should not be applied on the breasts, on the face, or on irritated skin. After applying, the gel should be allowed to dry, and not be washed for one hour. Contact with eyes should be avoided. Hands should be washed after application.
What are the potential side effects from Sandrena?
This medication may cause fluid retention and therefore, patients with cardiac or renal dysfunction should be carefully observed.
Sandrena therapy may be associated with elevation of plasma triglycerides leading to pancreatitis and other complications in patients with hereditary defects of lipoprotein metabolism.
What should I discuss with my doctor before taking Sandrena?
If you have past history of breast cancer. If you have estrogen-dependent tumours (e.g. endometrial cancer). Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, check with your doctor. Acute or chronic liver disease or a history of liver disease as long as liver function tests have failed to return to normal.
