Why is Norco prescribed?

Norco is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Hydrocodone is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. It relieves pain. Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of Hydrocodone. Together, acetaminophen and Hydrocodone are used to relieve moderate-to-severe pain. Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone may also be used for other purposes.

How should I use Norco?

You can take Norco orally. To avoid stomach upset, always take with food or milk. Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occurs. Once the pain becomes intense, the medication is not as effective in relieving it. Never take more of Norco than is prescribed for you. To ensure that you get a correct dose, measure the liquid form of acetaminophen and Hydrocodone with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not with a regular tablespoon.

Do not stop taking acetaminophen and Hydrocodone suddenly if you have been taking it continuously for more than 5 to 7 days. Stopping suddenly could cause withdrawal symptoms and make you feel uncomfortable.

What are the potential side effects of Norco?

This medication can cause lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or flushing. If any of these effects continue or get worse, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: loss of coordination, confusion, irregular heartbeat, irregular breathing, extreme dizziness, anxiety, and tremors. It is not likely an allergic reaction to Norco , but if this occurs, seek immediate medical attention as soon as possible. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

What should I discuss with my doctor before taking Norco?

Always inform your physician your medical history, especially liver or kidney conditions, history of alcohol use, heart problems, abdominal/stomach problems, breathing problems, seizure disorders, drug dependency, severe diarrhea and of any drug allergies. Keep away from alcoholic beverages, because they may increase certain side effects of Norco. Use caution when performing tasks requiring alertness such as driving or using heavy machinery. Carefulness is advised when prescribing or using Norco in the elderly or very young since they may be more sensitive to the effects of Norco.

What is the recommended dose for Norco?

Never amplify your dose, take it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed because Norco can be habit- forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using Norco without your doctor's approval. When used for extended periods, Norco may not work as well and may require different dosing.

What should I do in case of overdosage with Norco?

If an overdose with Norco is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include: slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion, tiredness, cold and clammy skin, small pupils, nausea, vomiting, and sweating.
